About the Artist
Hello! I am Anastasia, a 23-year-old autistic artist.
I have a deep passion for color and seeing and preserving the world in a whimsical way.
Here is a snippet of my life and the source of my passion for creativity.
As a kid, I loved art. Even that is an understatement. According to my mom, I would add tissues, clothes pins, and other unorthodox materials to my artworks. I would carry an art box with me and even drew at every recess. From a young age I would scribble outside the lines and see wild things in them that no one else could.
I would create journal covers out of crayon shavings and packing tape and old notebooks. My happy place at school was art class. I never liked how time would be up when I was in the middle of a project.
While I was artsy, I often had a tough time with my medications and would have adverse mental or physical reactions. When I was 9, I was pulled off one of my meds too quickly. As a result, I started shaking nonstop 24/7, lost nearly 40 IQ points, and lost my short-term memory. It wasn’t until I was 11 that things settled down a bit.
But I was still having issues with my brain. It was during that time that we started going with more natural supplements. In those next 18 months my brain would find a shift towards creativity— which was spurred on by my newfound absolute love for The Lord of the Rings.
When I was 15, I wrote my first spoken word poem and became an autism advocate and public speaker. I won 5th place in a National competition and had several speaking engagements in the next couple of years. I ended up switching to painting in 2020 during quarantine and have never looked back.
I am still very passionate about disability advocacy and would love to get back to public speaking soon whether it's about art or disabilities.
My biggest dream is to one day combine both passions into holding art classes for dementia patients or opening my own gallery that would advocate and raise funds for research to support acceptance and potentially life-saving cures and support for children with rare genetic conditions.
At my core as an artist, I am a self-taught finger painter who loves experimenting in every medium. As a person, I am just a young woman who wants to give back.
No matter what you are searching for, I hope to bring color and whimsy into your space and maybe make a change while doing so.
